-Why Bari?-
Bari, the capital of Puglia
Bari, situated in the beautiful region of Puglia, is one of the largest and most prominent cities in Italy. It combines both history and seaside charm. One of the major ports of the Adriatic, and the Italian gateway to the Balkans. Bari is known for its charming old town, picturesque streets, churches and other hidden gems.
The region of Puglia in general is famous for its cuisine, and Bari in particular, is at the forefront of it. Just take a walk around the old town, and you can find many `nonas` making the traditional orecchiette, a unique pasta from the region, known for its shape similar to small ears. Another Barese speciality is the famous riso, patate e cozze, a dish of rice, potatoes and mussels cooked in wood fired ovens. Finally, you can't go to Bari without trying it's amazing street food. In particular, panzerotti is a neccessity. Also, don't miss the freshest seafood you will ever try.
